The term SaaS (software as a service) is often understood as oversimplified, only as software that is not installed on a PC, but is launched and runs in the cloud and is provided to users by subscription, for example, Google Docs, CRM systems, analytical systems of data collection and processing, etc. And SaaS services can also be successfully used in the construction of cloud infrastructure or as ready-made working models of toolkits.
At ServerBee we help our customers optimize the budget for the maintenance of cloud infrastructure and often use an opportunity to simplify infrastructure management by activating server-based SaaS tools from different cloud providers. Here are some excellent examples from our practice that can help you to save money and time:
- Kubernetes as a Service (KaaS) is a type of SaaS. Our customers don’t always need specific configurations and tuning of Kubernetes for their tasks. Sometimes an installed set of standard configurations in the control panel of the cloud provider is enough. The use of K8S as a service is offered by the provider as a paid service and can be beneficial for our client because it saves time and money for its configuration.
- Load Balancing as a service. Kubernetes successfully balances the load within and between clusters, but external load-balancing software is also often used as a service to avoid manually configuring. With its help, external traffic is balanced on k8s nodes of the cluster, and this service helps K8S manage infrastructure scaling more efficiently.
- Cloud storage. Data storage, synchronization, and backup are important processes for every corporate project. To set up this complex and multifunctional service, within the local infrastructure, you’d have to attract high-class specialists to be responsible for its performance and support. Also, you have to rent or buy some SAN hardware for big projects. Often, using cloud storage as a SaaS is beneficial for our customers, as it ensures the safety and security of their data and provides flexible configuration of this process without increasing the number of employees or purchasing and maintaining expensive equipment.
- Database as a service (DBaaS) is another type of SaaS. The ISV (independent software vendor) takes over all the management configuration, replication, backup, and etc operations. An example of such a service is RDS on AWS or CloudSQL on Google Cloud. Managing a cloud DBaaS can save a lot of time and significantly simplify the setup of standard cloud features.

We help each customer to analyze the possibility of using server SaaS solutions for their projects and to choose the most optimal option of a set of software for their infrastructure. If you want to know more, come and tell us about your project.
